The 135th China Import and Export Fair(Canton Fair)

The 135th China Import and Export Fair (Canton Fair) was held in Guangzhou from April 15th to May 5th, 2024, with a total exhibition area of 1.55 million square meters, a total of approximately 74,000 booths, and 29,000 participating companies, setting a new record for the number of participating companies. The first phase of the fair was themed “Advanced Manufacturing,” showcasing new products in areas such as electronics, home appliances, new energy vehicles, and smart travel. Over half of the participating companies have used digital technologies such as artificial intelligence and big data analysis to transform their production operations, improving the quality and efficiency of their products.

During the first phase of the fair, there were 197 companies from 30 countries and regions participating in the import exhibition, with companies from Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) countries accounting for approximately 74%. For the first time, a display area for cross-border e-commerce and overseas warehouses was set up, with a total of 158 companies participating. On the opening day, there was a significant increase in the number of foreign buyers attending the fair. As of 17:00 on the same day, the number of foreign buyers attending the fair offline had reached 60,178, from 205 countries and regions worldwide, an increase of 18.5% compared to the same period last year.

In addition, the fair has played a significant role in promoting trade between China and Africa. During the 135th Canton Fair, more than 30,000 African buyers registered to attend, a significant increase from previous years. Over the past five sessions, an average of 14,000 African buyers attended the fair offline, while an average of 95,000 African buyers participated online. The fair has also attracted companies from 46 African countries, including Egypt, Uganda, Kenya, and Zambia, to participate in the import exhibition, with products covering a range of topics such as electronics, home appliances, hardware and building materials, household goods, and food.
